Despite renewable energy coming a long way from its inception, one matter of concern still looms in the mind of experts, high battery capacity. Experts still relate that renewable energy sources suffer from intermittency, especially solar and wind. For this reason, they advocate for a project called big battery technology that envisions the use of high capacity batteries to cater for gaps in the renewable energy power supply. 

There are reports that batteries are on the rise in the renewable energy market. California looks to turn its once working Moss Landing Power Plant in Monetary Bay into a large battery capacity for power storage. The once gas-powered energy generator will be turned for renewable power storage over the entire California region. 

The plant currently has specified renovations taking place, including a 300-megawatt lithium-ion battery that is being installed. There are extensive plans to have an additional 100-megawatt battery expected for 2021. These batteries will be capable of storing enough power to supply 300000 California homes with power for four hours. Experts state that this plan will offset the state power requirements in residential areas when demand is high.  

Plans show that the state will install an additional 182.5 megawatts of power produces from Tesla megapack batteries. These are high capacity batteries that will only need 265 to cater to the increased demand come mid-2020. California plans to lay infrastructure capable of supplying all the households in the state for six hours. The venture is a partnership between the largescale energy companies like ay Area Utility and Pacific Gas & Electric, working hand in hand with the state energy commissions and teams. 

Similarly, the state has an additional 250-megawatt project to develop sufficient storage capacity. These plans include a 250- megawatt project in San Diego, together with a 150-megawatt energy capacitor and an additional 100-megawatt battery project stationed in Long Beach. According to the global metric, California is the leading state in high capacity battery development. However, researchers relate that this development rate stems from the availability of a research base drawn from electric vehicle battery research from EV manufacturers. 

A significant number of manufacturers provide the basis for the development of high capacity lithium-ion batteries. However, California reigns in the capacity to integrate lithium-ion batteries with high capacity batteries with efficient renewable energy generation. Developing high capacity battery firms can mitigate energy supply in the low and high season to provide energy evenly.
