
Britons carrying debt problems in 2011 may be interested to hear about the latest debt advice when it comes to managing the repayments on credit cards.
Consumers up and down the UK that have credit cards are being encouraged to set up a direct debit to their account in order to ensure late payments don’t happen.
Michelle Whiteman is a spokesperson for The UK Cards Association.
She explains that despite the fact that most people with debt problems acting responsibly by paying off their full balance – there are still many who don’t.
Ms Whiteman highlights that 61 per cent of Brits are able to meet credit card payments, and as such these consumers can enjoy the advantages that come with credit.
She says: "With thousands of different available credit card products, it is important that when customers are considering a card they must do their research and shop around."
She goes on to say that by doing so, consumers can find one that best suits their needs, as well as their plans on how they intend to use them.
Debt solution expert, Kevin Still says: “Our primary concern is the 39% of UK credit card users that may not be able to manage regular debt repayments.
A debt spiral can easy occur if you are using credit cards to pay for day-to-day essential household expenditure, like groceries, and you are not paying this back in the following month.
You may be living beyond your means and debt advice may become a necessity when balances creep to the card limits.”
