
Consumers in the UK are this week being warned not to engage with dangerous loan sharks, no matter how severe debt problems get.
The Office of Fair Trading [OFT] has told BBC News people struggling with debt mustn’t be tempted to approach illegal money lenders even if its to raise cash for presents and festivities at Christmas.
The OFT thinks more than 250,000 people could be vulnerable to these scams.
Director of credit for the OFT, Ray Watson said: "There's a real danger this Christmas because of the financial situation people are in."
