Debt fears are the number one cause of sleepless nights, ahead of relationship problems and weight concerns, according to a new study.
The research by Boots and the Tony Ferguson Weightloss Programme found that on average, adults lose over an hour (68 minutes) of sleep each night, due to worrying about their debt levels.
Boots' Angela Chalmers notes that the fears about needing debt help are understandable in the current climate, with job security and wage-squeezing a growing concern.
She adds that "being kept awake at night worrying can be very emotionally draining and may have an impact on your health."
A study earlier in the year by hotel chain Travelodge found that sleep loss costs £1bn a year, due to workers needing to take days off after a bad night's sleep.
