More people in Scotland may be in need of debt help, after a new report found that unemployment figures were at their highest since 1996.
The Monitoring Poverty and Social Exclusion report from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) indicted that the economic recovery in Scotland had slowed, despite the country faring better than England at the start of the recession.
The JRF has now called for the Scottish government to come up with "explicit policy positions" on issues which are leaving more Scots needing debt help, such as benefits and taxes.
In the meantime, Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has pledged to continue "to press the UK government on their plans to change the welfare system so that the poorest families get the help they need."
