
Consumers have been reminded that they may face increased debt levels from October the 1st, as BT and TalkTalk put up their prices.
uSwitch.com note that the move is reflective of a "worrying trend in the rising cost of everyday essentials" and advises customers to avoid needing debt help by seeking cheaper providers.
Even with BT and TalkTalk upping their prices, Virgin Media are the most expensive provider, with a first year cost for their Unlimited package being £280 (£279.28), according to the consumer website.
To avoid needing debt help to pay for phone bills, uSwitch's Ernest Doku advises customers to look "outside of the major players", indicating that Primus' Home Phone Saver will cost less than £110 (£107.88) in the first year.
Kevin Still, director of Atlantic Financial Management says, "Rising phone bills and utilities charges are compounding UK household debt problems as disposable income continues to erode.
Usage of phones can be controlled to a large degree, so many UK residents may need to look at their budgets to look at ways of tightening their belts further.
