A debt charity in Northern Ireland is struggling to keep up with all the people who need help, so they may be better off seeking a professional debt management company.
The Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has reported that debt levels in the province are growing at such a quick rate that they are finding it hard to deal with everyone.
Their Dealing with Debt report shows that over the 2009/2010 financial year, they dealt with 2,500 people needing debt help, which was a 7 per cent increase on the previous year.
Redundancy enquiries jumped by over 40 per cent (42 per cent) to more than 3,000 (3,333).
The need for professional debt management companies may be even more keenly felt in the future in Northern Ireland, as CAV project manager Scott Kennerley believes that the region will be hit hard by the forthcoming public sector cuts.
Director of Atlantic Fianancial Management Kevin Still says, "There is growing evidence that the commercial debt solution sector will need to meet the gap in service capacity for people needing both face-to-face and telephone based debt advice as government spending cuts take hold.
Reputable providers should always clarify whether any service fees are involved and at what point."
