A charity warns that homelessness in Birmingham could rise as people are driven towards higher levels of debt by the cut in Local Housing Allowance (LHA).
Almost 19,000 (18,870) people will be affected by the cuts in the city and Crisis indicates that there is already an average shortfall of £23 between rent and benefit claims.
They believe that cutting LHA by a further £10 will force people to seek debt help or even force them out of their homes.
Crisis policy manager Katharine Sacks-Jones believes that low-paid workers will be hit the hardest and could end up putting more strain on local services if they need help from the local authority.
The charity's chief executive, Leslie Morphy, goes further, stating that debt problems and homelessness could "cause damage for generations to come in the West Midlands".
