Many Scottish people lack the skills to manage their finances well enough to avoid needing debt management.
This comes after research by Edinburgh Napier University for the Scottish government found that many people north of the border lacked the basic knowledge needed to look after day-to-day finances and didn't know where to go for debt help.
The also discovered that younger people, those on low incomes and those with poor levels of education were more likely to be the ones needing debt solutions.
Professor Ronald McQuaid from the university notes that "those disadvantaged groups who are financially incapable, and likely to suffer significant negative consequences when things go wrong, need particular support."
