An MSP has called for tighter regulation of will-writing companies which can leave people seeking debt solutions.
The appeal was made by Fergus Ewing on the BBC's Panorama, as it looked into the firms that can appear to be a cheaper alternative to using solicitors to write up a will.
Mr Ewing comments that all of Britain needs protection from the "crooks, cowboys and conmen" that sometimes set up these firms.
The programme revealed that an initial cost of £75-£100 rose to many thousands when fees which the client hadn't been informed about were added on top.
Probate lawyer Pauline Platt worries that it is not just the additional fees which could lead people to seek debt solutions, but also repairing the damage, which can be "immensely costly".
