Holidaymakers looking to book a private villa this summer could find themselves being defrauded out of thousands of pounds, leaving them to seek debt solutions.
This comes after the case of the Martin family was reported by the Daily Mail, who lost over £4,000 (£4,150) after falling victim to a fraudulent holiday villa scam.
The holiday was booked through a reputable website, but it appears that the person who actually owned the villa had had their email hacked and used by fraudsters to scam the Martins.
Laura Fergusson from the European Consumer Centre comments that when people fall victim of this kind of scam, in most cases the money you have paid is lost.
And in the current climate, losing thousands of pounds to such a con could leave Britons in a Debt Management Plan, rather than a luxury villa.
