Single mothers in Scotland are running into debt problems after it was revealed that fathers are withholding more than £300m (£308m) in child support payments.
The figures come from the Child Support Agency (CSA), who are still struggling under the weight of a 17-year "debt mountain" and will be rebranded as the Child Maintenance Enforcement Commission (CMEC) next year.
Sue Robertson, director of One Parent Families Scotland slammed the CSA for not helping single mothers with their debt. She remarked that "the agency has a wide range of powers, but does not appear to be using them as widely as it could."
A spokeswoman for the CSA responded that they "do not give up on cases
nor do we write off accumulated arrears".
