In the news this week, new research from Moneysupermarket.com revealed that two in three (66 per cent) people wouldn't lose any sleep about their debt problems, even if they missed energy bill payments.

On top of that, only a third (35 per cent) would start to worry if debt collectors started knocking on their door.

Kevin Still from Atlantic Financial Management calls the figures "worrying" and points out that his debt solutions company makes sure that priority payments, like utility bills are met.

In other news, the core rate of inflation has risen to the highest level since 1997. This indicates that consumer inflation may rise in the future, leading more Britons to look for debt advice.

And whilst the numbers out of work have dropped to 2.47m, experts don't expect it to last. The average earnings growth has also dropped to 2.7 per cent, lower than the inflation rate of 3.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Tax Payers' Alliance fears that national debt levels may be closer to £8tn, rather than the £4tn stated by the Office of National Statistics.ADNFCR-2613-ID-19893511-ADNFCR
