Levels of fuel poverty have almost quadrupled to 4.6 million households in the last six years, adding to the debt woes of many.
In its eighth annual report, the governments Fuel Poverty Advisory Group, also highlights that fuel bills could rise by a further 50 per cent, on top of the 125 per cent rise that has been seen over the last six years.
Many of these price rises have been down to paying for green initiatives. As we mentioned last week, 7 per cent of the average fuel bill goes on these environmental taxes.
Research from uSwitch.com has revealed that nearly half (44 per cent) of those polled think that green taxes should be balanced against affordability, whilst nearly a quarter (22 per cent) are more concerned about debt levels and just want cheaper bills.
