People looking for a new home will get help with finances from Clydesdale and Yorkshire banks after they reduced their mortgage rate fees by 50 per cent.
They are also helping people to avoid debt caused by contents insurance by cutting the price of that by half as well.
Clydesdale Bank's Steve Reid indicates that someone switching their home repayments and contents insurance to either of the banks stands to save around £600.
However, these new reduced rates will not be any help to the nearly 380,000 (378,000) people who have already fallen into mortgage arrears.
These people would be advised to seek expert debt management advice to help them with their financial problems.
