Millions of Britons could be giving themselves unnecessary financial problems by not changing their home phone provider.
The survey by Homephonechoices.co.uk revealed that 53 per cent of consumers hadnt changed their line rental provider in the last five years. This failure to shop around costs people more than £350m (£359m) every year.
It was found that the best company to use to avoid debt caused by excessive phone bills was Primus. Their Home Phone Saver was found to be the cheapest package at £8.99 per month, which includes free evening and weekend calls.
Michael Phillips, of Homephonechoices.co.uk admitted to being "surprised" at the results of the survey, as changing home phone provider is one of the simplest services to switch and save money on".
Kevin Still, director of Atlantic Financial Management says: "A word of caution on switching any provider in the UK, if you have debt problems or have underpaid your current provider either on the budget scheme or missed payments then beware of having to clear the bill before moving."
He says Atlantic actively looks at "cost saving opportunities for people with debt problems", but they're always mindful of the hidden problems of switching provider.
