When people are hit by personal debt problems, they often let their health suffer, particularly their teeth.
Whilst other areas of health are covered for free by the NHS, oral health is something that slips down the list of priorities when people draw up personal financial budgets.
A new survey by health plan provider Simplyhealth revealed that 43 per cent of people have decided against visiting the dentist in the past due to financial problems.
Simplyhealths James Glover indicates that some people have risked more debt by taking out loans for dental treatment, but stresses there are simple and cost-effective ways that people can budget for the cost.
Charges on the NHS start at £16.50 a month for basic treatment, with higher costs in private practices.
Kevin Still at Atlantic Financial Managementsays : "Even if you have debt problems, you should consider the well being of your family and yourself as a priority because this can have knock on effects in your work and home life."
He says this doesn't mean cosmetic treatments, but "essential dental work or medicines that need to be budgeted for." Atlantic Finance always consider these when preparing a statement-of-affairs for someone considering a debt solution.
