The government has announced new rules for benefit entitlements that will help out families in financial difficulties.
From the 12th of April, maintenance paid by an absent parent towards the support of their children will be fully disregarded for calculating benefits.
Previously, only the first £20 paid per week was discounted.
The move will help out some of the UK's poorest families with lone parent benefit claimants over-represented amongst those facing personal debt, and particularly vulnerable to loss of income through unemployment.
The budget, taking place on Wednesday afternoon, is expected to offer more for British families in financial difficulties.
It is widely thought that the chancellor will announce measures to make basic banking facilities for financially excluded people more available.
