Housing Minister John Healey has created a stir after suggesting that repossession might be the best option for some homeowners.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Mr Healey said that "sometimes it is impossible for people to maintain the mortgage commitments they've got" and suggested that losing ownership of their homes might be better.
The comments have been met with a hostile reception from Shadow Housing Minister Grant Shapps, who accused his opposite number of 'losing touch with reality'.
Figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) found that repossessions increased 15 per cent in the last year.
