Couples risk debt for romance

Valentine's Day is one that causes a lot of anxiety for couples across the country, and not just due to the fear of getting snubbed.

Research from Yorkshire Bank found that British couples can expect to pay an average of £550 on February 14th – putting a considerable number at risk of debt trouble for the sake of romance.

According to the study, women are the biggest spenders – forking out an estimated £338 – a third more than their male counterparts.

With many Brits still in the grips of debt problems, men might have the right idea – preferring to settle instead for a takeaway and a DVD than an expensive night on the town.
