Millions of Britons could be paying too much tax from April, due to computer problems at HM Revenue and Customs.

Employees told the BBC that a faulty system could be charging double the correct level of tax to some consumers.

This could be enough to push many over the edge, and means that over 75s that are married or in civil partnerships could lose out on almost £700.

The Revenue says it is working on the problems, and aims to resolve them by the start of the new tax year.
