The huge cost of the coldest winter in 30 years has been revealed by price comparison site moneysupermarket.com.
According to the site, the average winter energy bill has increased by 20 per cent in the space of a year. This means an extra £100 on top of already stretched household budgets.
The finding means that bill payers are now paying more for their winter energy than ever before with the cost having more than doubled in the last six years.
moneysupermarket.com urged consumers to move their tariffs online and pay by direct debit to save as much as 25 per cent on their annual bill.
