
A number of people with energy debt were left without any heating this winter despite being covered by a government-funded scheme, it has been claimed.
The BBC says it has seen dozens of complaints from people relying on the Warm Front scheme, which repairs faulty boilers. They say that many have been told they face a six month wait before being seen.
The Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee, which monitors the scheme, will now launch an investigation.
An estimated four million UK households reportedly suffer from fuel poverty, while the Warm Front scheme is believed to have helped around half of that number over the last decade.
As a debt management company, Atlantic see many people reliant on benefits to make ends meet.
Kevin Still, director at the firm, said that "delays or non-payment of these benefits can create serious debt problems, and we see people borrowing more to pay essential household bills".
